GEORGIA MIDWIFERY ASSOCIATION

Advocacy & Legislation

Strengthening Midwifery. Supporting Families. Shaping the Future.

The Georgia Midwifery Association is committed to supporting a stronger, more inclusive future for midwifery in Georgia. Through education, collaboration, and professional advocacy, we seek to advance recognition of midwifery, expand access to care, and encourage meaningful dialogue among midwives, healthcare professionals, legislators, and the communities we serve.

Advancing Midwifery in Georgia

Efforts to establish licensure for Certified Professional Midwives in Georgia represent an important opportunity to strengthen the state's maternal healthcare workforce and expand access to midwifery services.
Thoughtful legislation can establish professional standards, support accountability, and encourage greater integration of midwives into the healthcare system. Equally important is ensuring that these efforts respect and protect traditional, community-based, and apprentice-trained midwives whose contributions remain an essential part of Georgia's midwifery heritage.
Meaningful progress requires collaboration, equitable access to education and care, and recognition of the diverse pathways through which midwives serve families and communities.
